Products Description of 2-Phenoxyethanol CAS#122-99-6
Phenoxyethanol is a traditional preservative. It is a colorless, slightly viscous, oily liquid with a faint aromatic smell and a burning sensation. It is slightly soluble in water and almost insoluble in mineral oil. It can be mixed with acetone, ethanol, and glycerin in any proportion. Phenoxyethanol has a very significant killing effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and it has inhibitory effects on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The mechanism is to act on the cell membrane to increase the rate of potassium ion passage and reduce the activity of enzymes, thereby inhibiting cell growth and achieving antibacterial effects. When used as a preservative alone, the effect is poor at low concentrations, and it may cause skin burning and stinging at high concentrations. Therefore, it needs to be used in combination with other preservative components.
