Cyclohexene is a cyclic olefin, which is a colorless, flammable liquid with a special pungent odor at room temperature. It can be oxidized by air to generate peroxides when left in the air for a long time. It exists naturally in coal tar and is easily soluble in organic solvents such as acetone, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, ether, ethanol and hexane. It can form binary azeotropes with lower alcohols, acetic acid, etc. Cyclohexene has the general properties of olefins. It decomposes quickly in sunlight or ultraviolet light in the presence of uranium salts. It remains unchanged when heated for a long time at 200°C in a sealed tube, and forms benzene and naphthalene at 400-500°C.
