Products Description of Shikimic acid CAS#138-59-0
Shikimic acid is a white crystalline powder that is easily soluble in water. It is named after the Japanese shikigrass from which it was first isolated. It is an important metabolite of plants and microorganisms. For a long time, shikimic acid has been mainly extracted from the dried mature fruits of the Illicium or Japanese shikigrass (Japanese aniseed) of the Illicium family. In recent years, there have also been reports on the extraction of shikimic acid from the fruits of Liquidambar formosana and pine needles.

Product Application of Shikimic acid CAS#138-59-0
Shikimic acid is a key precursor for the synthesis of many alkaloids, aromatic amino acids, indole derivatives and chiral drugs. Recently, shikimic acid has been used as a starting material for oseltamivir (the active ingredient of Tamiflu), a neuraminidase inhibitor that can be used to treat and prevent influenza A and influenza B.
It is an anti-tumor drug and also a synthetic raw material for anti-tumor drugs such as dioxins and glyoxalase inhibitors
It is used as a standard for the quantitative determination of shikimic acid content in the apical part of the root. It is also used as a substrate for shikimic acid kinase assay.
