Triethanolamine, also known as trihydroxyethylamine or amino triethanol, is a colorless oily liquid with an ammonia-like odor. It readily absorbs moisture and turns brown when exposed to air or light at high temperatures. At low temperatures, it forms colorless or light yellow cubic crystal lattices. The melting point is 21.2℃, the boiling point is 335.4℃, 277℃ (19.950 kPa), 206-207Chemicalbook℃ (1.995 kPa), the relative density is 1.1242, and the refractive index is 1.4852. Kb = 2.5×10-10. The pH of 0.1 mol/L aqueous solution is 10.5. It can be miscible with water, methanol, and acetone. It is soluble in benzene and ether, and slightly soluble in carbon tetrachloride and n-heptane. It is a strong base, which combines with protons and can be used in condensation reactions.
