Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) is a white or off-white powder derived from methyl cellulose. It is soluble in cold water and some organic solvents, forming a viscous solution with surface activity and film-forming properties. The solution shows reversible sol–gel transformation with temperature changes and remains stable at room temperature. HPMC is widely used in pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, construction, textiles, and petroleum industries as a thickener, stabilizer, binder, dispersant, coating, and film-forming agent.
