Softening salt, composed of high-purity sodium chloride, is used to restore the activity of the ion exchange resin in water softening equipment. (Ion exchange resin is the core component of water softening equipment and is used to absorb calcium and magnesium ions, also known as water base, from the raw water.) Therefore, it is also called an ion exchange resin regeneration agent. Softening salt is not required when the water softening equipment is operating and producing water. Only when the resin's softening capacity decreases is it backwashed with a saturated sodium chloride solution to restore resin activity, also known as resin regeneration.
