Products Description of Aluminum oxide CAS#1344-28-1

Alumina is commonly known as bauxite, with the chemical formula Al2O3, a white powder that is refractory and insoluble in water. The melting point is 2015℃, the boiling point is 2980℃, the relative density is 4.0, and the Mohs hardness is 8.8. It has different crystal forms, mainly α and γ variants. Alumina can be obtained by heating and dehydrating aluminum hydroxide. The α-type aluminum oxide that exists in nature is called corundum, which is second only to diamond in hardness. A small amount of impurities mixed in can make corundum with various colors, called gems, such as ruby (containing a small amount of Cr3+) and sapphire (containing Ti3+ and Fe2+, Fe3+). Now gems can be made by artificial crystallization of molten aluminum oxide. Artificial gems are no less than natural gems in terms of their properties and are widely used in industrial technology. For example, they are used as bearings for fast-moving parts of machines, diamonds on clocks and watches, as well as abrasives and refractory materials. Another example is corundum crucibles, which can withstand high temperatures of 1800℃.
